Traits

There are five Traits: Brawn, Finesse, Resolve, Wits, and Panache. All characters start with Rank 2 in each of their Traits, except for their Nationality Bonus Trait (see p.110 of the Player's Guide) which receives a 3. Further Trait Ranks may be purchased at the cost of 10 CP (30 XP). The normal maximum for a Trait is 5, but this limit may be increased to 6 for a particular trait with the Legendary Trait advantage. Certain Swordsman Knacks may also grant a +1 to a Trait which is not limited by the normal Trait maximums.

Brawn is the character's physical strength and stamina. The character's Rank in Brawn is added as Unkept Dice to melee attacks, and is also rolled as Kept Dice for Physical Wound Checks.

Finesse is the character's grace and speed. The character rolls a number of Finesse Action Dice each round equal to his Rank of Finesse.

Resolve is the character's fundamental strength to persevere. The character may take a number of Physical or Social Dramatic Wounds equal to his Resolve before being Crippled or Distracted. He does not lose consciousness or control until he has taken twice his Resolve in Physical or Social Dramatic Wounds.

Wits is the depth and quickness of the character's thinking. The character rolls a number of Wits Action Dice each round equal to his Rank of Wits.

Panache is the character's social grace and charisma. The character's Rank in Panachi is added as Unkept Dice to social attacks, and is also rolled as Kept Dice for Social Wound Checks.
